Mini-residency for senior dental students
Dr. W. Carter Brown and several partners in the Greenville area worked with Greenville Technical College and MUSC to create a mini-residency for the senior dental students to give them real-world experience as they help the community. Under the program, they come to Greenville for a week and do full-blown dentistry with indigent kids. They also work at night in the free dental clinic in Greenville doing extractions for adults.
âTeaming Greenville Technical College with MUSC,â Brown said, âoffers an opportunity for dental assisting students, dental hygiene students and dental medicine students to learn to work together, a skill most of them have to learn in private practice. This has been my pet project for the past two years and a model we hope will go national. Weâre actually delivering care and we have dentists in the Greenville area volunteering time away from their offices to serve as faculty of MUSC and as mentors.â

Dental Care as a Commodity
Article by Dr. Brown | AGD Impact | Oct 2012
"Like many dentists, I am usually obliged to be available 24/7 for my patients. I have limited flexibility in changing my schedule on short notice, I have to fund my own retirement and health care, and I function as the primary worker and manager of my practice. In light of all this, the corporate model for dentistry might seem to be worth a look."
